As an Italian American and Chicagoan I know pizza and like it a lot. This place has the best deep dish pizza I have ever had. Beyond that they also make my favorite cold sandwich in the country. The Panino. I get the Turkey and order it cold with extra dipping sauce. They are delicious and very inexpensive. I live on the South Side and travel all the way North for their food every now and then.

I used to go to the location just off Deerpath all the time after my dentist appointments. What better way to forget about your dental woes than to stuff your face with cheese? Since that location is now closed, I've been to this one a few times and the interior is a lot nicer and more spacious than most of the others. The pizza is very good, but I personally opt for the very (non authentic) Italian beef on garlic bread which is topped by an embarrassing amount of cheese. Mmmm.... Don't go here before the dentist unless you have a ton of toothpaste, brushes, mouthwash, mints, gum etc.

While Ferentino's doesn't compare to my beloved Giordono's, it's a fantastic choice for when I'm in the area and digging some classic Chicago style pizza. This is definitely one of the top pizza places in the burbs.

Ferentino's is some of the greatest pizza in the north shore. No need to chat about the endless pizza debate in Chicago, but in Lake Forest, Ferentino's rocks. The prices are a bit steep for pizza and delivery often takes an hour. Endless combinations of ingredients are available. Delivery is available as well as dining in, or pick it up yourself. pizza'd!

F is for Ferentinos. Ive been coming here for over 20 years. From one business owner to another, you never send hungry customers home empty handed, even if that means giving them a coupon card. I've never heard the excuse "we're too busy and far behind to take any more orders." Good thing other pizza joints have started opening up around town.

Great deep dish pizza for $3.00 at lunch! I always order the spinach and it is amazing.

Have you ever had a meatball sandwich? Have you ever had an Italian Meatball Sandwich? Have you ever had a Ferentino's Italian Meatball Sandwich? You haven't? Then why are we talking? Sir, you haven't LIVED until you have had Ferentino's Italian Meatball Sandwich. The thing is $5 (at lunch) and it is almost too much to handle, even for a big eater like myself. The sandwich is accompanied by a crisp, cold, refreshing pickle spear and a warm cup of marinara sauce. I want one right now. Damn it's only 10:24am.

Not long ago, I was in Lake Bluff on an afternoon which happened to be exactly Labor Day. Due to the lack of (almost) anything being open up there to eat at, I decided to cut back to Lake Forest and try Ferentino's, since it always was on my 'to try' list of places to go to. And since it helps that I noticed an interesting art fair was coincidentally going on in the downtown, that same day. Since I only had a limited amount of time(and an eventual Metra train, plus time I wanted to spend briefly seeing at least some of the art fair booths), I got a meatball sub to go. Thought it was excellent, and definitely better for sure than Subway's equivalent sandwich. Just more yelping(albeit it might sound boring, lol), to affirm the decent reviews that already exist for this place. I'm sure I'll try something that isn't a sub next time, provided I have more time and aren't in a hurry. Maybe the pizza?

I like the Pizza, but they just raised their prices AGAIN! How much does it cost to make a pizza? Sorry, but I had my last $27.48 pizza and we're talking about a 3 veggie topping pizza - NO Meat!.

As always, the pizza is very good! We tried half pepperoni/pineapple and half Italian beef/giardiniera peppers and it was awesome! The service was good, and the employees were very nice!

Came here for vaca. Stopped by this spot. Had their wings and they were Good and the hot sauce was good too. Had the meat lasagna. It was a good portion . Didn't have too much meat though but otherwise it was decent. People were friendly . Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

It's not delivery, it's... Wait. It is delivery! We love Ferentino's Pizzeria. It's not drop down amazing, but it's just great pizza fair for a decent price. We discovered this place when we moved here years ago and we just keep coming back. Call for delivery and they'll tell you they'll be there within an hour. Often, they're at our door in 20 minutes. Fast delivery, always hot. Two thumbs up from the fam.

This has always been one of my favorite places for pizza and pasta...I remember when they were in Highwood from 2003 to 2007 Best chicken parm around!

This is the best pizza hands down. The staff is great too. We've been ordering pizza here for decades and it never disappoints. Pastas and salads are great as well. Ray, the owner, always greets customers warmly. Try their pan pizza. Heaven.....

My first deep dish pizza experience. Called in a large deep dish meat lovers pizza. 30-35 minutes. Arrived in 40, still waited another 15 minutes. Disappointed. $30? I don't know how much deep dish typically costs and how it works out to that, but yeah that wasn't worth it in my opinion. Wasn't wowed. Nothing that stood out or I could complain about. It's pizza. Crust, toppings, cheese, sauce. Simple formula. I guess deep dish isn't for me. I found it too sloppy and too filling. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to food but deep dish isn't for me. You win New York. I was contemplating on giving you a 4 star rating cause I felt unfair but I subtracted a star just because of the waiting time.

Pizza is just ok, but thoroughly enjoy their salads, particularly the Del Popolo. Always fresh and good tasting. Loaded with artichokes and cheese. Love it with their Greek dressing -- one of the best I've ever had.

Delivery. Fast. Quite good. Expensive though. Medium 1 topping $21! Moccios is a better value.

In my opinion, Ferentinos has the best deep dish pizza in Chicago. They call it pan pizza but the crust is truly amazing and the ingredients are always fresh and delicious. My family's favorite is the meat lovers which is loaded with bacon, sausage, pepperoni and ham. Their panino sandwiches and salads are equally good. For dessert don't forget the tiramisu.

Stopped in here on our way back from Lake Bluff beach and pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. We ordered a Chix Parm sandwich, meatball grinder and a cold cut combo. In hindsight should have had the meatball on the focacia, not the french bread and knocked $2 off the price. Its just when someone says focacia, I think of the disguising one @ Panera. Well not here, both the cold cut and the parm were served on it and it tasted good( similar to Schlotzkeys). All sandwiches tasted great and we would definitely come back here again. They have 2 flat screen tv on each end, so no matter which side of the table you sit on, you can get a great view. We watched the end of the US-Croatia women's bball game; which they won by 25!

Was in the area and wanted to try Chicago-style pizza. Was with brother and sis, and we ordered 3 drinks, 1 salad to share, French fries, mushrooms, and a large classic pizza. It came to about $50! I guess not too bad for 3 people, but here's what we did wrong...don't bother with the apps. Not great, and really we got about 8 or so small mushrooms with our order. Salad was just ok, but it was nice to have something while we waited. I think we could have made do with a small one. The pizza was good, but I would have liked to have more filling. Really was overwhelmed by the bread factor. Happy to have tried it, but think I'll stick with the usual, 1- crust, toppings-on-top pizza!

With the cafeteria closed at Lake Forest College on Saturday nights, Ferentino's was always one of the favorites for dinner. I dropped by here again last night for dinner, and everything is exactly as I remember. The place is not particularly big, but the food is quality and comes out quickly. I had a caprese salad and a meatball sandwich. The bread that they serve with the salad is amazing. I am pretty sure I could eat it for a meal. Their meatballs are great with lots of flavor, and they don't drown the sandwich in sauce. the bread is flavorful and toasted. Another of my favorites is the chicken parmesan panini, and you can never go wrong with pizza. Be careful though because the thicker crust pizzas take a long time to cook.

Ferentino's a great, casual restaurant. It's a nice, pleasant place to have some quality, fast food in a low-key environment. It's a little on the expensive side, for a place where you order at the counter, but the food quality's great and it comes out fast. The pizza's very good here. It's unfortunate that they discontinued their dollar-a-slice deal a few months back. Alternatively, their panino sandwiches are amazing. The panino portions are huge and very, very tasty. I'd also recommend their meatball sandwich, which is delicious and filling. If you come to Ferentino's, you won't be disappointed.

My family was visiting Chicago for the first time, I felt that it was essential for them to try Chicago style pizza. At Ferentino's, they are very accommodating with the phone order so it would be ready for Carry-Out (so you can skip that long excruciating ~30 min it takes to normally wait while smelling the aroma of fresh baked pizza). I would definitely opt to do this in the chance so that the food would arrive faster even if i was dining in the restaurant. Food we got: 1. Deep dish pizza pepperoni and pineapple: The crust was herby and crisp, which provided nice texture in comparison to the softer more chewy dough where there was the sauce, cheese, and toppings. Everything was well balanced and toppings were nicely dispersed throughout the pizza. Also, I am not a huge fan of excessive sauce so there was a good amount on this pizza just to maintain flavor and moisture. 2. Italian beef round bread: was decent. The meat was not too memorable but the bread was! There is also an option for a longer french bread bun. but give the round bread a try! In any case, whenever I want pizza in a pinch, this will be my go-to place! :]

By far the greatest Italian beef sandwich in Chicago. Perfect balance of juiciness and toastiness, unlike the typical soggy Italian beef. I get the combo with the Italian sausage and both peppers. The amount of flavor in the meat is surprising and much more exciting than any other Italian beef I've tried. I also have very high standards for Chicago deep dish and was as shocked as I was delighted to find out that their deep dish is one of the best I've tried. Overall my favorite place to go for pizza and beef.

I'm an out of towner, from the "D." My buddy delivers part time for these guys and has been telling me how great the food is. While I was wary of getting authentic Chicago deep dish from this far up the North Shore at first, I caved and gave this place a shot. In an upscale, cozy nook of Lake Forest, this Ferentinos is nestled in a shopping complex type plaza area near the Lake Forest Metra station. The menu is pretty diverse. I chose a Chicago favorite, the Italian beef sandwich. It was on a yummy warm, buttery, and soft Italian roll. There was plenty of juicy and tender beef steak pieces on the sandwich and it was topped with cooked peppers and plenty of melty cheese. There was hot peppers and an awesome savory beef gravy on the side to dip the sandwich in. This Italian beef was AWESOME. It hit the spot way better than the Italian beef at Al's Original downtown, even though that is the original and creator of this classic sandwich! The Chicago deep dish was half pepperoni and half sausage. It was hand crafted well. There was plenty of cheese, sauce under the cheese, and over the cheese, and plentiful meat in it as well. The crust was buttery and crispy enough for a crunch but soft enough to not leave behind. Awesome. While the deep-dish may not have been the best in all of Chicago, boy was it a viable pie to grab up in Lake Forest! The guy who served us (and also appeared to be a manager or owner) named Doug, was a real hometown kind of guy and hung out with us while we ate. I highly recommend this place for some delivery or to even eat in with counter service, the inside area is very clean and well kept in true Lake Forest fashion. My only suggestion would be to consider adding a few things to the menu. Some chicken wings, maybe some fried chicken, ribs, and more sides (such as mozzarella sticks, mac & cheese, etc.) would be nice. If the menu had a few more all-American delivery favorites, then I would have given this place 5-stars!

GREAT stuffed pizza!! Their sauce is TO DIE FOR. For reals. Best pizza that's within a 10 minute drive for us that's for sure. Only downside is they don't serve beer or wine at the restaurant... BUT there's a fresh market right next to Ferentino's that has a great alcohol selection. My advice: call in your order, pick up a redbox, get some booze from the Fresh market, pick up your pizza, and go home! You got yourself a great night in! :)

Good Place, Fast Delivery, Nice People. This is the go to for my family. The pizza isn't cheap but its definitely worth it. They also have pretty good salads. The best one is the chicken chop chop. I have been ordering from here for the last 5 years at least once a month.

Best Italian beef I have had in a long time. The bread was amazing and crispy, and the beef had a lot of flavor. Sweet peppers and cheese are a great touch. Was very busy for a week night so the locals must agree.

I have always loved the food here.... But within the last month or so quality and customer service have gone way way down. Work very close to the restaurant and will never order from again due to their unwillingness to right their mistakes... Please note this review is for the West side establishment on waukegan road..

While I agree that the pizza at Ferentino's is superb, I was disappointed with their pasta. Usually I order pizza, however, I decided to change it up and order pasta bolognese. I'm not a newcomer to Italian food, thus I know that bolognese meat sauce is thick and creamy. When I was given my pasta bolognese, the sauce had a deep red hue which was a result of heavy use of tomato sauce. The sauce was rather salty and lacked creamy flavor typical of bolognese sauce. Basically, I was served a bowl of linguine pasta with a red spaghetti sauce with chunks of meat. Ferentino's bolognese sauce is not bolognese at all, rather, it is a red spaghetti sauce with meat. Although my experience with the pasta was not pleasant, I cannot deny the good flavor of the pizza. It's rather unfortunate that their pasta dishes are not up to par with their pizza.

Hands down the best deep dish pizza I've ever eaten. It's a lot of different factors, but the main winner here is the sauce. Full of flavor and seasoned to perfection. Just the right amount of cheese, not overbearing like other deep dish pizzas I've tried. The crust is good and crunchy, which plays nicely with the smoothness of the sauce and cheese. I wish I didn't love their pizza so much because their panino sandwiches are excellent as well. Huge round sandwiches that are great for sharing or great for shamefully hoarding for yourself if you're really hungry. I've had pizza from their competitors in Lake Forest as well. They had good pizza too, but nothing beats Ferentino's sauce!

This is a nice little pizza restaurant in one of my favorite towns in the Chicago area, Lake Forest, IL. The ingredients are fresh, the staff is friendly and its supler clean for a pizza shop. I've been here 3 times while traveling to this area for work. The meatball subs are made with perfectly toasted fresh italian bread and an excellent housemade sauce. I'm by no means an italian food expert and I probably average less than 20 meatballs per year. For me, its all about the sauce. I ALWAYS order extra sauce on subs and pizza and the sauce at Ferentino's is top notch. Its not too chunky but you can still see the harmonious blend of the individual ingredients. Their deep dish pizza is also fantastic, but not quite in the top tier with some of Chicago's best. That's one hell of a high standard and Ferentino's still completes well in this league of the very best deep dish pizzas. Check it out for a quick meal in Lake Forest!

When we are ordering pizza for delivery Ferentinos EAST is our go-to place. I had tried the other location (West) first since it is located within walking distance to our house, and was not as happy with the end result (dry, sometimes burnt, not as cheesy, etc.). It takes just as long to have it delivered regardless of where we live in relation to the location, too. So we tried the East location and it was FABULOUS! Almost a different pizza, I swear! Same delivery time, too. So, now when we order we make it very clear that the pizza MUST come from the East location...and yes, we do know that there is one within walking distance to our house, but no thanks. We'll wait. :)

So, who goes to a pizza place and orders salad? I do! All part and parcel to the guilt associated with the over indulgent dinners I either create or find in local greasy spoons =) Regardless! I ordered the Greek salad and it was delicioso! The fresh feta was a great, salty compliment to the light dressing. The anchovies were also up to snuff. I thoroughly enjoyed the bell peppers in my salad too - something I'm not accustomed to, but hey, I'll take it! The service was quick and the cost of the pizzas on the menu were very reasonable (less than $3!). The salad was priced where most salads are. Given that this in downtown Lake Forest, both of those are huge steals. Remember, in this neck of the woods? People pay an arm and leg for a variety of services. If you find a good deal under normal standards, it's a much greater steal up in the North Shore. Heeeeeeeeeey!

I worked here in high school and it is still my favorite pizza of all time. They run an immaculately clean operation, and the food is outstanding!! They serve the best deep dish pizza in the world, and their sandwiches are incredible. Go here, you will not be disappointed.

We had to try these pizzas as we had been told they were by far the best pizzas in town. I guess pizza is really a matter of flavor. I like them like in Italy, thin and crispy crust, preferably with the flavor of the wood burning oven, mmmmmmmmmmm.................... What we had from Ferentinos was thick and fatty, even the ones we had asked as thin crust were thick (granted it is thin compared to a Chicago Deep Pan Pizza). Not very delicate in my opinion. Because we have been so disappointed with the pizzas we haven't tried to eat in. Delivery goes fairly fast though

This place must do a lot of catering orders because I was introduced to it through on two different occasions this month. I recently got a new job in the area and we have already had two meeting catered by Ferentinos... Amazing! I had the pleasure of tasting a variety of their dishes and my three top favorites are their deep dish sausage pizza, their italian beef (sweet peppers and cheese add-on is a MUST!) and their italian panino. I went back for lunch the other day and the individual portions are huge! The panino is 2 times larger than a typical cafe sandwich and the dipping sauce is to die for!! All for under 7 bucks. Their sausage is also impressive because it has so much more flavor than at an average pizza place. And the beef... The sandwich is huge, with a generous portion of meat, fresh bread and dipping juice. Delicious! I was talking to one of the guys at the front and he told me they have another spot in Winnetka, called MarcoRoma. I'll have to check that place out next!

I went here for lunch with a colleague for the first time today. She had the house salad and a slice of spinach pizza. The pizza looked really good and she seemed to enjoy it. The house salad just looked "okay". I had the chicken parm panino and was surprised at how large it was! I ended up taking half of the sandwich back to the office (leftovers for lunch tomorrow!). It was really very good! Next time, I'm trying the pizza.

No doubt about it on this one. Ferentino's serves up the best pizza on the North Shore (the north shore suburban region of Chicago). I have done deliveries for them so I have gotten to know the man behind the empire himself, Piero D'Ascenzi. He is a little bit crazy, but is truly passionate about his restaurant and has put in his blood, sweat and tears since the early 80's to ensure that he would have the top restaurant in the North Shore (a very affluent region full of tough critics) and he has certainly met the task with his restaurants' gourmet style pizzas. Check out the flagship location in downtown Lake Forest (Ferentino's East), or if you're located a bit further west drop by the West Lake Forest locations or if you're a bit further south (ie. Highland Park), try out the Fort Sheridan location. But the Lake Forest location has the nicest interior by far and is probably the most pleasant location to actually dine at. The food is identical at all three. Ferentino's closest competitor is definitely Viccino's (Piero sold some of the Viccino's stores to their current owners Brett & Doug). Viccino's serves different parts of the North Shore though (Northfield, Glenview, Glenbrook/Northbrook, Highland Park, Libertyville). Ferentino's has the Lake Forest portion of the North Shore clearly on lock and will continue to do so.
